This week I've started waking up at 6 AM with my husband to make him breakfast before work, which has given me the opportunity to read my Bible before I start my day. I am not naturally an early riser so I typically do my devotions before bed, but there is something so peaceful about the quiet of the mornings that I have really loved.
Tuesday morning I randomly turned to Pslam 32 and started reading. I don't always choose my reading randomly, but that morning I am glad I did. Some time ago I had highlighted verse 8 which reads:
"The Lord says, 'I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.'"(NLT)
There was obviously some time in my life previously when that verse stood out to me, and I was reminded of that by the pink ink that covered it, marking its significance over my life. Psalms is often referred to as the book of praise, and this verse really anchored that description for me. If you've been reading my blog since the beginning or know me well, then you know that I often have trouble with control. I like to know everything that will happen ahead of time, write it in my planner and even have a little say if possible. God has done a tremendous work on my heart this year showing me that I cannot control most anything, and more importantly that I don't need to. That last part is the sweet spot.
Not only is God my guide, but He promises to guide me along the best path for my life. What a peaceful promise! There have been so many times in my life I have been faced with a choice - what job do I take, which school is right for me? What should I major in? Should I take this opportunity? - Decision-making has never been my strong suit to put it lightly.... I now, through trial and experience, am starting to really understand the blessing of having God advise and watch over me and my decisions. I can trust His guidance and listen to His voice, and even if I misstep He is there to lead me back. Praise God for his provision and patience!
If there is a decision you are trying to make right now, I encourage you to pray this verse back to God and thank Him for His goodness. He has good plans for us, and we can rest in that. We serve a purposeful God, and because of that, I can rest easy knowing He will lead me into great purpose.
